ALDER SPRINGS VINEYARD - Massal Selections of Chardonnay Clones.
No vineyard better captures our ethos than Alder Springs. Remote, wild, and meticulously farmed, its extreme conditions and low-yield regenerative viticulture produce fruit of striking intensity and purity. The result is a wine layered with texture and energy, shaped as much by patience as by place. Nestled in the rugged hills of Mendocino County, California, is a pioneer in regenerative viticulture. Since its establishment in 1993, owner Stuart “Stu” Bewley has championed sustainable practices that prioritize soil health, biodiversity, and ecological balance.
Stu’s dedication to regenerative agriculture aligns seamlessly with OFFROUTE’s philosophy of forging one's own path and embracing sustainable practices. By sourcing Chardonnay grapes from Alder Springs, OFFROUTE not only benefits from the vineyard's exceptional fruit quality but also supports and shares in its mission to cultivate wines that are both expressive and environmentally responsible.
This is farming with patience, intention, and respect for nature’s complexity. Just the kind of path we love to take.
COOMBSVILLE VINEYARD - Single Acre. Single Cabernet Clone. Singularly Napa.
On the southeastern edge of Napa Valley, tucked into the volcanic foothills of Mt. George, lies a single-acre block of old Clone 4 Cabernet Sauvignon. This site, perched above the Coombsville bowl, captures everything we love about the region—elevation, complexity, and cool-climate power. This is a vineyard with presence.
From the very beginning, it was clear this block had something to say. Coombsville’s deep volcanic soils and natural marine influence extend the growing season, allowing the fruit to hang longer and ripen more evenly. The result is a Cabernet that offers structure without harshness, depth without excess.
Clone 4 is a workhorse of Napa Cabernet—and for good reason. Known for producing wines of classic character, it delivers bold aromatics, ripe tannins, and deep, dark fruit that speaks of place. When grown on older vines in a site like this, the clone transcends its reputation. It becomes something soulful.
The 2023 vintage is our first from this vineyard, and it’s a statement. A wine that honors tradition while carving its own path—just like OFFROUTE.
VIADER VINEYARD — Hillside Cabernet, Proven by Time
Perched on the volcanic slopes of Napa Valley’s newly recognized Crystal Springs AVA, Viader Vineyards has long stood as a quiet outlier—steep, rocky, and uncompromising in its pursuit of balance and precision. Founded in the 1980s by Delia Viader, the estate earned global recognition for wines that marry power with restraint, establishing these hillsides as a place of serious promise long before the appellation had a name.
Beginning with the 2024 vintage, OFFROUTE sources sustainably certified fruit from Viader’s dramatic hillside terraces to shape our future expressions of Cabernet. The vineyard’s fractured volcanic soils, elevation, and cooling mountain air give rise to wines of depth and tension—Cabernet Sauvignon at the core, refined and lifted by the quiet influence of Cabernet Franc.
This is a place where conviction has always guided the work. Our partnership honors that legacy while continuing to explore what these hills are still capable of becoming—shaped by stone, guided by instinct, and always a little off the map.
